IV. Surge Reduction System - d. Down-hole Drop Ball Sub
The successful application of the surge reducing tools is often dependent upon the orifice size of the autofill float equipment. Prior to the innovation of The Allamon Tool Company Down-hole Drop Ball Sub the largest orifice size available was smaller than the smallest ID of the drill pipe or the drill pipe accessories including casing/liner hanger running tools. The Down-hole Drop Ball Sub provides the operator with an option to run a larger orifice which greatly reduces the risk of plugging as well as providing greater in-flow area for enhanced surge reduction. The Down-hole Drop Ball Sub is run on inner string cementing jobs for sub-sea casing strings. The operator is provided the ability to drop a small ball from surface, through the drill pipe and accessories, which activates the dropping of a large ball at the bottom of the inner string. The large ball falls inside the casing until it reaches the float equipment at which time a pressure increase and release indicates conversion of the float equipment.
